EL18XCV Air Conditioner
Focus on getting the best installer
April 20, 2025My new EL18XCV delivers 5-star performance by controlling both temperature and humidity, unlike the EL23XCV I bought last year did. Despite twelve service calls, six outreaches to the manufacturer asking for help and four thermostats, the EL23XCV did not control humidity. Our oak floors cupped, we had excess condensation on our windows, and breathing issues. The EL23XCV’s 1-star performance was so bad I almost did not invite any dealer representing its manufacturer to bid on the project that resulted in the EL18XCV purchase. During the bidding process I learned that four manufacturers recommend that a variable speed compressor be used with a variable speed furnace, a smart proprietary thermostat, and adequate wiring to take advantage of the efficiency potential of the compressor. My EL23XCV came with a non-variable speed furnace and a “smart” Honeywell thermostat that was doomed to failure by the inadequate wiring that also forced the installer to downgrade the compressor to work like a less efficient 2-speed. Fortunately, based upon what I learned during my market research, I accepted Bradbury Brothers proposal to replace the wrong furnace with the right variable speed one, use an iComfort S40 thermostat and add the wire between the attic units and the compressor to restore its variable speed capability. Finally, the EL23XCV system with the right components controls both temperature and humidity. Bradbury Brothers upgraded a 1-star mismatched system to a 5-star winning team. The purposes of reviews include identifying manufacturers and installers that provide good equipment and installations and educating fellow consumers. In my case the manufacturer’s product sems OK. But had they provided better customer service, we could have been more comfortable and used less energy last summer. My original installer who selected the wrong equipment to go with the variable speed high efficiency compressor that they downgraded to a 2-speed because they did not wire it correctly earned a 1-star rating. My EL18XCV installer, Bradbury Brothers, who also fixed my EL23XCV system earned a 5-stars. My advice to consumers is focus on selecting the best installer. If you do that right, you will avoid the discomfort and frustration we suffered and the unexpected cost of fixing someone else’s mistakes.

Products that add to the performance of EL18XCV Air Conditioner
Proper sizing and installation of equipment is critical to achieve optimal performance. Split system air conditioners and heat pumps (excluding ductless systems) must be matched with appropriate coil components to meet ENERGY STAR criteria.
